Sister was born in Glenarm, IL, the daughter of Charles and Mary Duncan Brunk. She entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters in 1949 and pronounced her religious vows in 1951.
Sister Mary Alma devoted 38 years to ministering in elementary education in Hampshire, Bradley, East St. Louis and Chicago. Prior to entering religious life, Sister was employed as a seamstress at Dirksen Furniture Store in Springfield for many years. In 1989, Sister retired to the Motherhouse.
Preceding Sister Mary Alma in death were her parents, two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Verna, Mary and Ruth Brunk, all in the Springfield area, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her Dominican Sisters with whom she lived and ministered for almost 52 years.
Visitation will be at the Motherhouse from 3:30 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10,2001 with a wake service beginning at 4:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Convent Motherhouse at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2001. The Burial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2001. Interment will be in the Brunk Family Cemetery, East Lake Dr., & Orchard Lane, Springfield, with Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.
