Loretta was born on December 2, 1936 to Hollis Jackson Bowers and Mattie Nora Bowers. She was raised by her father, Hollis, and stepmother, Dorothy, in Houston. She attended school in Houston, graduating from Reagan High School in 1956. She worked in Hospital Administration for 18 years. She was an active participant in social and business activities, serving as the Treasurer for many years at The Heights House, where she made her home.

She was an avid sports fan and was devoted to her Houston Texans and the Houston Astros. She also enjoyed fishing every chance she could manage. Loretta loved everybody, loved to laugh and dance and enjoyed every opportunity to act silly.

A devout Christian woman, she loved God deeply and sacrificed much for others. She was an enthusiastic member of The Pursuit Church in Houston and managed love offerings with her coffee can at the Wednesday night Life Group. Loretta loved her family and was devoted to spending time with all of them. Her family consisted of a sister, Vesta Walsh (Norman), and brother, Allen Bowers, both of whom preceded her in death. Two half-sisters, Nora Lynn Moore and Rumar Story, both of whom also preceded her in death. She is survived by her half-brother, Johnny Bowers (Norma) and stepsisters, Jeanne Phillips and Barbara Hawkins (Don). She was beloved by numerous Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews, and Great-Great Nieces and Nephews.
