Jack Mitchell (81) of Fruitland Park, FL , born June 17, 1938 in Ohio, passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s on March 2, 2020.

Jack started his career by serving 8 years in the United States Coast Guard before moving to Leesburg, FL where he launched his banking career at Citizens National Bank from 1974 to 1998. In 1998 he was instrumental in starting Citizens First Bank until he retired in 2006. Jack’s hobbies included his love for fishing, dove hunting, telling elaborate stories, watching old westerns and was a devoted Florida Gator fan.

His extensive community involvement included helping to build the LHS football stadium where he was a member of “ The Silly Six”, organizing the Kids Korner at Venetian Gardens, coaching the Dixie Major World Series Championship game in 1978 and an active broadcaster for WLBE where he announced football, baseball and basketball games for LHS. Jack was a member of the Lake County Gator Club and the Leesburg Quarterback Club.

Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol Mitchell, his son David Mitchell, daughter Candie Lewis, predeceased daughter Ronda Moore, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life to be held on March 28th at 10:30 am with family visitation starting at 10am at Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, FL. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimers Association. After the service the family welcomes you to join them at the Leesburg Boat Club for refreshments from 11am-1pm. PLEASE WEAR YOUR FAVORITE FLORIDA GATOR OR FISHING ATTIRE AS A TRIBUTE TO JACK.
