Norma Jean (Dallas) Freeman passed away on October 8th in Tulsa, Oklahoma
Born on August 5, 1940 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, to Harvey and Dorothy (Darnold) Dallas, she was their sixth child.
She married Ivan Lee Freeman on February 3, 1959. They built their home in White Oak in 1967 and she has continued to live there for the past 52 years.
Norma was a stay at home mom with her three daughters until they were all in school. She joined the workforce with Cinch Connectors, working there almost 34 years and making many life-long friends.
She loved quilting, donating quilts to various charities and gifting to those she loved. She also made special quilts using calendar tea towels in the year of the recipient's birth. Norma enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, garage sales and collecting platters and trivets. She tended her chickens, wild birds, hummingbirds and the deer families on her property. She also looked forward to game shows "Family Feud" and "Wheel of Fortune", playing along to beat the contestants to the answers. She liked gospel music, especially "The Gaithers".
Preceding her in death were her parents Harvey and Dorothy Dallas, her husband Ivan in 2009, sisters Esther Miller Cox and Wanda Goodman, brothers Bob Dallas and Merl Dallas and brothers-in-law Dick Kirby, Boyd Berg, James Crider, Clifford Miller, Don Goodman, Lavel Anderson, and sister-in-law Grace Dallas.
Norma is survived by her three daughters, Deborah and husband Stan Draper, Rhonda Dodd and Tammy Hawkins. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Angie and husband Jesse Whittle, Jennifer and husband Cody Wang, Amy and husband Bo Nigh, Nicholas Moore, Nathan Moore, Julie Moore, and Kaeli Hawkins plus nine great-grandchildren and one on the way, sisters Elsie Berg, Goldie Crider and Doris Anderson, brothers- and sisters-in-law Dorothy Dallas, Dixie Kirby, Jim and Boots Freeman and Gene and Joyce Freeman, and special cousin, Gladys and husband Rex Carter. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Norma overcame many obstacles in life, starting at a young age with the loss of her mother at only five years old. She held her family together while her husband was an over-the-road trucker and reigned over cancer twice. She was always self-sufficient and found inner strength and determination to enjoy a full and abundant life. She will be missed for her laugh, her smile and her huge giving and loving heart.
The celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jesse Kincade officiating.
