Julia M. (Overmyer) Rogers, 88, of Batavia, Ill., passed away on Friday, April 6, 2012, at Heritage Woods Assisted Living in Batavia, Ill.

Mrs. Rogers was born on September 11, 1923, in Hartford City. She was a 1941 graduate of Hartford City High School.

She married Del Rogers in 1946 in Indianapolis. Mr. Rogers served in the United States Air Force in Europe during World War II. During the war Mrs. Rogers worked for the Army Ordnance. She later worked for a time at Indiana Glass in Dunkirk where she worked as a decorative painter.

Mrs. Rogers was a descendant of several Blackford County pioneers. John Saxon, a Revolutionary War soldier, and Elizabeth Evans, Gilbert Townsend and Mary Saxon, Alvah Townsend, a Civil War soldier and Elzara (Shields) Townsend are some of Mrs. Rogers' Blackford County ancestors. She had deep roots in Blackford County. She was very patriotic and extremely proud of her pioneer heritage.

Mrs. Rogers resided in North Webster for many years. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Herbert Kuhn Post 253, North Webster.

In 1989 Mrs. Rogers moved to Gainesville, Fla., to be with her daughter, Susan. Towards the end of her life she moved to Illinois to be with her daughter, Christine.

Mrs. Rogers is survived by her daughters, Christine (Daniel) O'Brien, of Aurora, Ill., and Susan (James) Pickett, of Gainesville, Fla.; her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Julia (Thomas) Trenton, Rion Pickett, Katherine Eble, Sarah Pickett, Laura Fruhauff, Thomas Trenton and Kayla Trenton. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen (Joseph) Overmyer, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Del L. Rogers, her daughter, Sarah Rogers, her parents, Edwin and Sarah Ellen (Ella Townsend) Overmyer, her brother Joseph Overmyer, and her sister, Marjorie (Overmyer) Nelson Kellogg.

Services will be private and burial will take place in Hartford City.
