Mr. Beard and his wife were former owners of Park Drive Foods. He was well known for his barbeque and raising sunflowers. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and was discharged as a sergeant. He was a graduate of Mississippi College, where he played baseball and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Davis M. Beard and Lola Nunnery Beard.
He was survived by his wife, Julia Widman Beard of McComb; three sons, Murray Beard, Jr. and wife Elise of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Jeff Beard and wife Lori of Miramar, FL, and Bill Hamrick of Jackson; one daughter, Debbie Barfield and husband Chuck of Vicksburg; four brothers, Jerry Beard of Vicksburg, Jack Beard of Birmingham, AL, Billy Beard of Stockton, AL and Jimmy Beard of Exmore, VA; one sister, Barbara Ann Miller of Ripley; 6 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
