Mrs. Sanderson was born on October 2, 1933 in Duplin County to the late Almon Hill Carter, Sr. and Alice Hussey Carter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ammie Ray Sanderson; sisters, Grace Hussey Carter and Elizabeth Fields and her brother, Almon Hill Carter, Jr.
Mrs. Sanderson is survived by her son, Ray Sanderson, Jr. and wife Connie of Harrisburg, NC; two daughters, Debbie Thomas and husband Ken of Raleigh, NC; and Kim Sanderson of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren; Jeffrey Sanderson; Chris Sanderson; Brittany Allred and husband Lindsay and Cameron Thomas; great grandchildren; Michael and Hunter Allred; sisters-in-law, Marion Glyn Carter and Grace Farrior; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
Mrs. Sanderson affectionately known as “Lulu” enjoyed spending time with her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling to the beach and mountains. Lulu was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. She was an active member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian and participated in many of the church activities. One of her passions was participating in bible studies. She never met a stranger and loved to laugh.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 6, 2020, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace, NC from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Rose Hill, NC with the Reverend Brian Doles officiating.
Burial will follow in the Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville, NC.
