Max Fischer Kemper was born at Portland, Traill County, North Dakota on August 22, 1897, the son of George W. & Evelyn Kemper. In 1909 he moved with his parents to Minot, ND where he was reared. In 1916, he graduated from Minot High School. At the time of his enlistment in the United States Navy in 1918, he listed his occupation as a building contractor. He enlisted in the United States military service at Minneapolis on March 6, 1918; served at Dunwoody Naval Training School in Minneapolis to May 110, 1918; Naval Radio School, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., to October 17, 1918; Receiving Ship, Pensacola, Fla., to November 11, 1918. He was released from active duty February 16, 1919 at Cambridge, Mass., as an Electrician 3rd Class and discharged from active duty on September 30, 1921. His duty included training and teaching telegraphers at Harvard University and at a flying school before flying as a radio operator.
Following his release from active duty, he went to work for his father at Kemper Construction Co., in Minot, and in 1920, he married Jean Skeoch in Minot. In 1923 the company relocated to Los Angeles where he lived until the time of his death on March 18, 1985. Survivors: wife, son, Bruce, one granddaughter, brother, Paul of Minot, ND. A memorial service to be held at a later date at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Minot. Cremation has taken place.
