Born April 6, 1927 in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Lorenzo H. and Nellie C. (Shatzer) Chambers. He married his wife Marian E. (Hardman) Chambers on April 29, 1948.She died on March 1, 2015.
Pastor Chambers ministered in the Methodist church for 40 years including those in Kentucky, Virginia, Martinsburg WV, Hagerstown, MD and Waldorf, MD. He attended the Grace Bible Church of Greencastle. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who not only loved his family, but his Lord and Savior. Richard was a graduate of Greenville College, Greenville, IL.in 1954 and Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Ky in 1956. He was a US Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving family are two sons, Mark Chambers of Bunker Hill, WV, Paul Chambers of Marion, VA; three daughters, Connie Anderson of Canal Fulton, OH, Cynthia House and Cathy Staggs both of Greencastle, PA, one brother, William Chambers of Cumberland, MD; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday March 9 at 1:00 PM at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cumberland, MD with Pastor J. Herman Fisler officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later time at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Grace Bible Church 2327 Hoffman Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
