A. C. "Coke" Williamson, resident of Corpus Christi since 1942 passed away Friday, June 20, 1997 at the age of 96. He was born February 23, 1901 in Pleasant Ridge, Texas to the late Rev. Marcos and Josephine Williams Williamson.

After graduation from the Southwestern University in Georgetown and teaching high school and junior college for five years, he began a 39 year career as scout executive for the Boy Scouts of America, serving Councils with headquarters in Mexia, Sweetwater, El Paso, and Corpus Christi. Mr. Williamson received numerous awards in scouting, was recognized as a Silver Beaver and served as scout master of one of six troops from the United States at the World Jamboree in the Philippines in 1959. Upon his retirement from scouting in 1966, he was commissioned "Admiral of the Texas Navy" by Gov. John Connally. An active member of Rotary International for close to 70 years, Mr. Williamson served as president of the Corpus Christi Rotary in 1963 and district governor of District 593 in 1966. He was a charter member of the Corpus Christi Knife and Fork Club, serving as president in 1957 and executive vice president from 1968 to 1987. Mr. Williamson was a lifelong Methodist and member of the First United Methodist Church of Corpus Christi. He served his church in many capacities, including Sunday school teacher, Administrative Board member, president of the Administrative Board, member of the Board of Trustees, and lay leader.

At the time of his death, he was an active member of the Friendship Class and serving on the church's historical committee. Mr. Williamson served as co-coordinator of the finance campaign to establish Corpus Christi State University.

He was very active in the early years of Community Chest, predecessor to the United Way. He served for many years as a counselor for the Service Corp. of Retired Executives (SCORE) and was a member of the Friday Morning group.

Mr. Williamson served as one of 25 original trustees incorporating and planning for the facility with the goal of "making growing old in Corpus Christi better".

Mr. Williamson was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Aline Hallmark Williamson and his son-in-law, Dr. Oscar L. Johnson.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia A. Johnson of Lake Jackson; three grandsons; two great grandsons; sister and brother-in-law, Jodie and Ed Griffith of Port Arthur; and brother, Glenn K. Williamson of Charleston, S. C.

Family will received friends Monday at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Downtown. Following a graveside service Tuesday at Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, a memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Corpus Christi with Dr. Raymond D. Kiser officiating. Immediately following these services a luncheon and celebration of Coke's life will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church or Boy Scouts of America, Gulf Coast Council. Funeral arrangements are by Cage-Mills Downtown.
