Raymond Paul Roberts was born on September 25, 1926 in Oklahoma City to Walter Grant Roberts and Ida Bertha AuFranc Roberts. He went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2020, after a short illness. He attended Oklahoma City Public Schools, graduating from Capitol Hill High School in 1944. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in St. Louis, Missouri. He married his high school sweetheart, Arlillian Ann Cash, in Belleville, Illinois on September 14, 1945. Upon discharge, Ray and Arlillian established their home in Bethany, where they live to this day. Ray and Arlillian were blessed with two daughters, Cherrie Ann and Jeanette Marie.

Ray was a master carpenter, working for Smiser Construction Company and later for Kinser Construction Company, where he became a construction superintendent. For the last 20 years of his career, he worked as a construction inspector for the Oklahoma State Board of Public Affairs. He received a commendation from Governor Henry Bellmon for his outstanding work in managing the installation of the ground source heat pump system at the State Capital.

In his post-retirement years, he developed a skill in building large-model airplanes and learning to fly them. He preferred to build planes from plans, hand-cutting the plane components. He also crafted beautiful handmade clocks for all 5 of his grandchildren, each made from a different type of wood. He was truly a master craftsman at whatever he did.

Ray and Arlillian were faithful members of Council Road Baptist Church, where Ray served as a Deacon for many years.

Ray is survived by his wife of 75 years, Arlillian, and daughters, Cherrie Hampton (husband, Jim) and Jeanette Bury (husband, Richard). Grandchildren surviving Ray are Angie Bouse (husband, Bart), Kim Arnold (husband, Jason), Mark Bury (wife, Eleni), Paul Bury (wife, Tammy) and Tim Bury (wife, Kim). He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Jillian, Nicolas, Ella, Nolan, Luke, Morgan, Sawyer, Adelaide, and Marshall.

Visitation with family will occur from 6-8pm on Friday, March 6 at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held Saturday, March 7 at 1:00pm in the Council Road Baptist Church Chapel, 2900 N. Council Road in Bethany. Ray will be laid to rest at Spring Creek Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
