Walter Kenneth Ellis age 79 passed away March 2, 2020 at his home in north Jackson.

He was born August 8, 1940 at Nashville, Arkansas in Howard County, the son of the late Walter Guy and Olivia Murl Shoffner Ellis. He graduated in 1958 from Murfreesboro High School in Arkansas. He married Judy Wright in 1962 and they made their home in Nashville, AR and then Jackson, TN. He worked for Hubert Owen Construction, and built the Jackson Coliseum. He was a local licensed building contractor of custom built homes, retiring in 2015. He was a member of the South Jackson Church of Christ.

He was a member of the Tennessee National Guard, retiring as Major in 1982. He loved wood working and enjoyed fishing and dove and duck hunting. He could create home plans from pictures people would share with him.

Mr. Ellis survived by his wife Judy Wright Ellis of north Madison County; a son, Alan Ellis (De Ann) of Jackson and a daughter, Leann Ellis Ross (Donald) of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Amy Nicole Byrd, Olivia Ann Ross Lane, Walter Hayden Ellis, Daniel Andrew Ellis, Sarah Emily Ross Neville, Jacquelin Elizabeth Ellis, Caleb Andrew Ross and Victoria Cathrine Ellis and two great grandchildren, Walter Graham Ellis and Wallace Griffin Ellis.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 7th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Ray Pack officiating. Burial will follow in Sweetlips Cemetery.
