On 21 October 2019, 2:45 pm, America lost one of its quiet heroes, Mr. Harold Snyder, age 92, who passed peacefully of natural causes at the Tower Health, Phoenixville Hospital.
Born on January 13, 1927 in Ridley Park, PA he was the son of the late Warren G. and Mary E. (Green) Snyder.
Harold is survived by his son William, 3 Grandchildren, 1 Great-grandson, and joins his wife, Shirley, his son, John, and his two brothers, Bill and Warren Snyder with our heavenly Father.
Harold carried an extremely humble persona that stands juxtaposed to the many experiences in his life. In his youth, Harold wrestled, competed in judo, played the clarinet, and built model wooden airplanes. After high school, Harold was drafted into the US Army and sent to Germany towards the end of World War II as a Logistician. After the Second World War, Harold re-enlisted in 1948, just in time to be sent to serve in the Korean War soon thereafter. After serving in two wars, Harold decided it was time to try life as a civilian, so he learned how to weld and worked as a professional welder for the remaining decades of his working career. Second only to the love he holds for his beautiful bride, Shirley, is his lifelong love for carpentry. There were easily dozens of items throughout Harold's property that he had fashioned out of wood, and they were all impressive works. In addition to welding and carpentry, Harold decided a while back the he would learn how to scuba dive and so he did and assisted the local authorities whenever they needed someone to recover a body or anything else within the murky rivers and lakes of eastern Pennsylvania. In between his scuba activities, Harold also volunteered for years as a Fireman at local fire departments and was an active member of the Phoenixville VFW, Post 1564.
When asked what motivated Harold to be so active and involved in so many acts of service throughout his life, he simply replied, "My mother always told me to "Get it going!" All those who knew Harold loved him and although everyone will miss him dearly, there's no doubt that our lives have been forever enriched by him.
