Katherine Franklin Reed was born January 3, 1945 in Milo, Oklahoma to the parents of Clemon Franklin and Margorie Scott. Her early childhood began at Central School where she completed the 9th grade. At an early age she gave her life to Jesus and was baptized at Jehovah Baptist Church. She was the daughter of a share cropper and learned at an early age of how to work and care for her family. She later became a member of the Farmer’s Union.
At the age of eighteen she married John E Reed. To that union they had 5 children. She had a mother –in-law (Clara Reed) who was like a mother to her. Clara mentored Katherine and helped her in becoming the woman she was. They both were maids together and when Clara got sick, this is when Katherine learned her gift in care giving. This was her calling from God. This became her mission in life, to take care of the sick and poor. Katherine practiced Matthew 25:36. “ I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison, and you visited me”. (NIV) Even when she became sick she never let that stop her from serving.
Katherine loved the Lord Jesus Christ and she did not mind serving in any capacity. She was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Gene Autry, Oklahoma. She served on the Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Mission, Youth Ministry and Hospitality. Her first love was her family. Her grandchildren and her great grandchildren was her pride and joy. Because she never finished school, she was an advocate for her children and grandchildren getting an education. Whatever she needed to do to help them she would.
Katherine was proceeded in death by her father Clemon Franklin, mother Margorie Scott, stepmother, Fay Franklin, sisters Ceola Bennett and Sandra Faye Reed, brothers Travis Franklin and Jordan Franklin, and niece Glenda Smith.
Her loving memories will be cherished by her children Carla Reed-Fry (Samuel), Linda Reed, Aaron Reed, Elder Jeffry Reed (Jennifer), and Donna Reed. Sisters Carrie Franklin and Quilla Battles. Special sisters Leola McGee, Theresa Walker ,Pearlie Ann McGee, Ethel Kaye Williams , Naomi Roberts, and Sharron Williams. Thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grand children, her aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who brought her immense joy.
7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
