Gary Terrell was born in Cortland, N.Y. of Jeanette E. Murphy and Elmer Gary Terrell, Jr. June 24, 1947 the oldest of seven children. He grew up in the Saratoga Springs, NY area, attending Ballston Spa High School in Ballston Spa, NY. He studied and graduated in Computer Science from New Mexico Tech, in Socorro, N.M. and completed computer science graduate work at The University of Texas at Austin.

He worked at The University of Texas at Austin as the Associate Director of the Computation Center facilitating research by faculty and students. He was always forward looking and had faith in people to do their best work. He moved to California in 1998 to work for Adobe Systems, Inc. As Senior Manager, Enterprise Security, he managed Adobe’s security services including governance, risk and compliance, leading teams with inspiration, creativity and communication for 21 years. He pursued his work in technology to ultimately foster creativity and enhance human communication. He mentored young people in technology and leadership and was respected by many colleagues.

He loved his work and contributed to the safety of Adobe’s intellectual property, enhanced human communication and inspired others to reach beyond what was known to new solutions and practices.

He was President of the Bay Area CSO/CISO Council area for many years bringing CISO’s together to confidentially share ides to protect intellectual property at companies across the State.

He was a steward of nature, spending many hours on nature trails by wilderness lakes.

As an avid tennis player he started the Austin Tennis League in the 1980’s in Austin. He played tennis for 50 years, enjoying every game and making life long friends along the way.

He enjoyed travel in Europe, playing tennis on red clay courts and wine tasting with friends in France, Italy Germany and Austria and picking up BMW’s in Munich.

He was an advocate for research and protection of the Humpback and Gray Whales and the health of our oceans through his support of Whale Trust of Maui.

He was devoted to his wife of 40 years and a friend to many.

He will be remembered as a man of integrity, passion, love, adventure and gratitude for all this life has to give us.

Gary is survived by his wife Mary F. Forbes, his brothers and their wives: Michael E. Terrell and Patti Terrell, Peter D. Terrell and Jamie Terrell, Jeffrey L. Terrell and Lorraine Terrell; his brother Mark G. Terrell, and sister Janet A. Terrell.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Chapel of the Hills, Darling Fischer, Los Gatos, CA. February 17 at 12 noon. A reception will immediately follow on site and afterwards a brief memorial will be held at Los Gatos Memorial Park to honor his life and observe his earthly resting place.
