Richard Donald Banks Jr., age 73, died of natural causes on February 27. 2020 at Turkey Creek Medical Center.

He was born November 16. 1946 in Detroit Michigan, the son of Richard D. Banks Sr, and Margaret Fulkerson.

Richard graduated from Dearborn High School in 1966. While in high school he met Dona M. Mead. They were married on September 10th, 1966. They remained married for 53 wonderful years.

Shortly after getting married, Richard began his career at General Motors from where he retired in 2006. He was an esteemed member of The Knights of Columbus, and a Eucharistic minister at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Columbia, TN.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sisters Lynne Munroe and Karen Bullock, and by his son Bryan Banks.

Surviving Richard are his wife, Dona; his sisters, Margaret Dienes and Lauren Haykus; his three remining children Traci Maurice, David Banks, and Richard Banks III; his grandchildren Jaime Maurice Jr, Ashley Whaley, Caleb Banks, Alexis Maurice, Bryan Banks, Nathaniel Randall, Morgan Maurice, Daniel Randall, Alek Banks, Robert Randall, and Daisy Banks, and nine great grandchildren.

Richard loved God, his family, and his service to St. Catherine's. While his children were growing up, he was quite a prankster, coming home at midnight to scare them half to death by scratching at the screen so that they ran screaming into their mother's room. He worked and played hard, almost always fixed his own cars and taught his children to always have the courage to try and fix anything. It did not always work out perfectly, as he always had screws or bolts left over, but he would always try.

As for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, they were the light of his life. Richard and Dona treated all their grandchildren like angels and loved them all the same. He and Dona moved to Tennessee in 1990. The suck-ups they were, Traci and Bryan both ended up moving there too. As his great-grandchildren were born, his joy and gratitude for life grew. He loved to have his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around him as often as possible.

Services will be held at St. John Neuman Catholic Church in Knoxville, TN on Tuesday March 3rd at 11am and St. Catherine's Catholic church in Columbia, TN on March 25th.
