The Flint community is mourning the death of Old Newsboys of Flint executive director Chris Hamilton. Aside from Old Newsboys, Hamilton served as a member of the Burton Rotary Club, Flint Elks, Burton Eagles, Free and Accepted Masons and Burton Chamber of Commerce.

He was given the Jack A. Hamady Good Scout Award in April 2011 during a luncheon at IMA Brookwood Golf & Banquet Center for his work in helping to improve quality of life for others in the area, according to MLive-The Flint Journal records.

He served as an Explorer Advisor for Post 651 from 1997 to 1999 at Delphi East; volunteered with the Tall Pine Council golf committee for more than 20 years; was a Friends of Scouting captain from 1987 to 1997; and received the Silver Bear award in 1999, the highest-ranking award for adult volunteers in Boy Scouts.
Hamilton attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1962 as a member of the Boy Scouts.

Chris graduated from Linden High School in 1964. He was the only football player in Linden history to earn All-American honors. He was inducted into the Linden High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Chris attended Purdue University on a full football scholarship. He was a member of the winning Purdue Rose Bowl team in 1967, the only Purdue team to ever win the Rose Bowl. He was also a member of the 1968 team that won the Big Ten Championship. Chris graduated from Purdue University in 1968.
