Raymond "Ray" Otto Bauer, 88, passed away in Longview, Washington on Monday, 10 February 2020.

Ray was born in Portland, Oregon on Friday, 24 July 1931, to Otto and Miriam Bauer. He lived with his family in Cedar Mills, Oregon, until he was fourteen. Then he moved with his family to Puget Island.

In 1951, Ray married the former Wilma Petersen. To their union was added two daughters, Betti and Linda.

At that time, Ray worked for the Department of Fisheries and the family moved quite often. In 1965, Ray found work in construction and moved his family moved to Kennewick, Washington. There, they remained until Ray retired the first time, in 1975.

At that time, Ray and Wilma moved their family to Puget Island where they raised sheep and cattle, and Ray went into business for himself, dealing in backhoes and bulldozers. He also volunteered for more than thirty years with the Puget Island Fire Department. (He already had fifteen years experience as a volunteer firefighter under his belt.)

Obviously, Ray was not one to sit still. After he retired the second time around, Ray took a job with Stanley Sanitary Service.

Unfortunately, his marriage to Wilma ended in divorce in 1990. Eight years later, Ray married Ora Loraine Bjorge.

Ray had many hobbies, including collecting antiques and rocks on the weekends, gardening, woodworking, traveling, and playing BINGO. He was willing and eager to help whenever someone needed assistance. However, Ray's favorite way to spend time was being with his family--especially his grand- and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are Ray's second wife, Ora Bauer; his children, Betti (Don) Kaste and Linda (Dean) Seaberg and stepchildren, Ken (Joyce) Bjorge, Craig Bjorge, Cathy (Mark) Reynolds; granddaughters, Amy (Blake) Bosckis and Brandi (Nolan) Beedle; step-grandchildren, Jeff (Julie) Bjorge, April Larson, Tyson (Lisa) Bjorge, Ashley (Brandon) Bray, Connor Bjorge, Allison Bjorge, Colleen (James) Reynolds; great-grandchildren, Isla, Jase and Kade; step-grandchildren, Taylor, Emily, Madyson, Morgan, Ryan, Aynslie, Nash, Tate, and Koda; and step-great-great-grandson, Cooper. Also surviving Ray is his brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Linda Bauer, as well as numerous extended family members.

Ray was predeceased by his parents; sister, Dorothy Proctor (1932 - 1993); stepsons, Kirk Bjorge and Jim Bjorge; and step-grandson, Joby Bjorge.

Ray's family suggests that those who wish to do so may make memorial contributions in Ray's name in lieu of flowers, to either the Puget Island Fire Department or Community Home Health and Hospice.

Graveside services were held in the Greenwood Cemetery, Cathlamet, Washington on Saturday, 15 February 2020, followed by a coffee hour at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 549 WA-409, Cathlamet.
