At the time of her passing, she was a member of Clay Hill Baptist Church. On December 20, 1964, she married James Powell of the Big Sinking Community in Wayne County. This union of fifty one years was blessed with two children: daughter, Cara Wynn and son, James Allen "Jay". The family lived on a farm in the Big Sinking area.
Carolyn received a bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University. She did graduate work through University of Tennessee, Western State University, and finished with a Rank I from Union College. She spent thirty years in the teaching field. These years included positions at Big Sinking Elementary, Kingston Tennessee Middle, Monticello High, and Wayne County High. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Cara and husband, Randy Cole; son James Allen "Jay" and wife, Suzanna Powell; grandchildren: David Cole, Caitlyn Cole, Dylan Powell, Kallie Powell.
Having lived and worked most of her life on farms, Carolyn had many interests connected with farm life. She helped establish, operate and participated in the Farmer’s Market in the 80’s.
