Jackie moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and attended Arsenal Technical High School graduating in 1954. While in high school she went on a blind date with William (Bill) Howell and the high school sweethearts were married soon after on December 11, 1954.
Jackie worked as a secretary at Eli Lilly and Company for 33 years before retiring in 1992. Jackie and Bill shared a love of travel. During their marriage, they traveled to many exotic and tropical places. But their favorite trips had to be Australia and their cruise to Alaska.
After retirement Jackie and Bill moved to Venice, Florida, for many years where she and Bill made lasting friendships. During the last few months of her life, Bill and Jackie moved back to Indiana to be closer to their family.
Jackie was very active in her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, both in the Indiana and Florida chapters were she served as Chapter President in both states. Her house is adorned with yellow roses; the sorority's signs of friendship and sisterhood.
Jackie was a passionate animal lover and champion for their well-being. She was a donor to the endangered wildlife in Southwest Florida and to the Indianapolis Human Society and Indianapolis Zoo. In Florida, she was a patron of Mote Marine. A day at Sea World Animal Park in Orlando or a trip to the zoo was Jackie's idea of a wonderful day. She enjoyed surrounding herself with family and walking through animal habitats.
Jackie was a thoughtful, self-less, compassionate and phenomenal woman who touched everyone who met her. She never knew a stranger and would be the first to offer any help or support to those in need.
Her passion and love for her family will be missed greatly. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, William Franklin Howell and by her loving daughters Joyce Howell (Simons) and Debra (Howell) Reed. She will be sadly missed by her three grand-daughters Stefanie (Simons) Dunn, Lindsay and Andrea Reed. Jackie also is survived by her two sisters, Althea (Saewert) Heisey and Marilyn (Saewert) Sailors. She was also a wonderful mother-in-law to Mark Reed and John Simons and grandmother-in-law to Jason Dunn. Jackie was also blessed in that she was able to see and hold her great-granddaughter, Lauren Marie Dunn, whose middle name is a tribute to this beautiful, caring woman.
