Joannes Nicolaus Hevener , son of Alexandri Hevener and Annae Catharinae, was christened 17 Apr 1707, in Rheinland, Prussia. His Naturalization papers, dated May 18, 1761, bear the name HAVENER. They still have attached the seal of "Our Soverign Lord King George the Third " and, also, the signature of Fran. Franquier, "His Majesties Lieutenant Governor and Commander in Chief of the Col. and Dominion of Virginia."

"The Hevener family came to America as German Palatines. The family patriarch was Nicholas Haeffner (also seen as John Nicholas Haeffner), who boarded a ship called the Davy at Amsterdam and sailed to Philadelphia, PA in 1738. The name spelling had already begun to change. The name is listed on two separate ship lists for the Davy...Hebener and Nickel Heffener. Berks Co PA church records show the original surname spelling, Haeffner.Nicholas Haeffner originally settled in Richard Penns' Manor of Andulhea. Nicholas Havener was naturalized 16 Sept. 1750; his Will is dated 15 April 1769."
