CHARLESTON - Dallas N. "Slats" Young, 87, of Charleston, IL formerly of Neoga, IL passed away at 9:55 A.M. Saturday, February 4, 2012 in the Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Charleston, IL. Dallas was born December 25, 1924, in Big Spring Twp. Shelby County, IL the son of Ray and Lydia L. (Becker) Young. Dallas married Rae Allene Hood June 24, 1956 in the First Christian Church in Neoga, IL. He was a retired welder for the Columbia Machine Co. in Mattoon, IL. Dallas was a long time member, also serving as a Elder and a Deacon of the First Christian Church in Neoga, IL. Dallas leaves his wife Rae Allene Young; one son, James Young of Champaign, IL; one daughter, Laurie L. Miller and her husband Mark of Sidney, IL; two grandchildren, Penny Hall and husband Aaron of Urbana, IL and Shawn Schoonover of Monticello, IL; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Jamey Schoonover. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday February 8, 2012 at the Swengel-O'Dell funeral Home in Neoga, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until service time at the funeral home.
