James Henry Merritt was the son of George Washington and
Melvina (Johnson) Merritt. He first married Nancy Coleman
on 9-11-1870 in Hendricks Co. Indiana. They were the
parents of one son, John D. Merritt.
After the death of Nancy (Coleman) Merritt, James Henry
married Mary Alice Spicklemier.
She was the daughter of Jeremiah and Hannah (Ingram)
Spicklemier.
Mary Alice (Spicklemier) and James Henry Merritt were the
parents of Nellie M.


OBITUARY

James Merritt, one of Washington Township's substantial farmers died at his home 5 miles south of Brownsburg September 10, 1911. Mr. Merritt was a man about 63 years of age and usually a man of good health. He suffered an attack only about a week ago and was ill but a few days before death relieved him of this earths cares. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his departure.
