Laura M. Parks, 100, formerly of Strong City, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at the Chase County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cottonwood Falls.

Laura Malone Sayre, the daughter of Luther C. and Mary Jane McKitrick Sayre, was born July 31, 1905, at Burns. She attended school at Burns. She married George W. Parks on Oct. 4, 1923, at Cottonwood Falls. He preceded her in death in November 1987. In November 1939, they moved from Cedar Point to Ellinor, where Mr. Parks was the foreman for Crofoot Ranch. She was a homemaker until she entered the nursing center.

She was a member of Saffordville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, Alf Parks of rural Emporia; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; four sons, George Junior Parks, William "Bill" Parks, Dale E. Parks and Harold "Casey" Parks five daughters , Marjorie Brown, Joyce Richcreek, Phyllis Zumbrunn, Mary Jane McLeary and Su Parks; two sisters, Mildred Sayre and Nona Dauber; and one grandson, Gary Parks. Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Beverly Meadows of Saffordville United Methodist Church officiated. Interment followed at the Hillside Cemetery in Toledo Township. Memorial contributions to the Chase County Senior Center may be sent to the funeral home 201 Cherry, Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845.
