Jon "J.J." Johnson, 53, of Dennis, died Friday, October 14, 2016 at Oswego.

He was born June 16, 1963 at Dayton, Ohio, a son of Duane Edward and Joyce Ann (Hatfield) Johnson. When he was five, the family moved to Rural Chanute where he attended school. He graduated from Altoona-Midway High School and later graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1994. He then began employment at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. He later moved to Shawnee and began working for the Kansas Special Olympics and was Vice President of Area Services. He moved to Dennis in 2007 and returned to the State Hospital. In August 2013 he began employment at the El Dorado Correction Facility, S.E. Unit at Oswego, where he was currently working.

On October 25, 1997 he and Tammy Jo Boone were united in marriage at the Faith United Methodist Church at Parsons. She survives of the home.

He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the Elks Lodge, No. 527. He loved sports and worked part-time refereeing grade school, middle school, high school and junior college games. He especially enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys, K.U. basketball, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, N.A.S.C.A.R., and golfing.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., October 20, 2016 at the Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Pauline Clugston officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Wednesday evening at the CARSON-WALL FUNERAL HOME. Memorials are suggested to an education fund established for his children, or to the Faith United Methodist Church. These may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
