Jim grew up in Grandville Michigan, went to Grandville High School and excelled in sports and academics. He was co-captain of the football team and captain of the wrestling team, and graduated in the top 10% of his class. This won him a scholarship to Michigan Tech University.
He married Sandee Wolford on 16 Jun 1972 and he adopted her two daughters from her first marriage, and then together they had 6 more children:

He worked as a journeyman Electrician with our dad, and they wired houses together. He loved to fish, and spent many summers at Big Star Lake with the family, swimming and water skiing, sailing and digging bear traps in the beach sand.
He loved to pull practical jokes on his siblings and had a good sense of humor. One time a neighbor lady made strawberry jam and gave him a jar of it to take home to our mother. The jar never reached her because he ate the whole jar and never told her about it. The neighbor was wondering why my mother never thanked her for the jam.
Rest in peace dear brother. You will be missed.
