Dolores Marie (Fallert) Bohnert, 87, passed away Wednesday, May 9, in St. Petersburg, Florida, after a courageous and dignified battle with cancer. Born on December 12, 1930, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, she was known to her friends as Dee.
The daughter of Andrew and Marie Fallert, she married Don Bohnert of Jasper, Indiana, on November 19, 1955, and had four sons. She retired from AT&T in 1987, concluding a career that began as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone in her hometown in 1947 and progressed from switchboard to administration. After retirement she served as a driver for her father’s school bus operation, and also was a sales clerk for Hallmark and Walt Disney World. She raised her family in Evansville, Indiana, then returned to Missouri for several years before settling in Florida, spending her final six years in St. Petersburg. An avid reader who loved to dance in her younger days, she never lost her sense of wonder and excitement for visiting Disney World.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother Paul, and her husband. Her eldest son, Jeff, was among the 29 victims of the 1977 airplane crash that took the lives of the University of Evansville basketball team.
She is survived by her sister, three sons, as well as seven grandchildren and a great-grandson. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1301 S. Green River Road, Evansville, Indiana. Services will begin at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with committal service following at ParkLawn Cemetery.
