Claire L. (Roux) Bailey, 96, passed away February 26, 2020. She was the wife of the late Edward E. Bailey.
Born in Leominster, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Gedeon C. and Elisabeth V. (Des Laurier) Roux.
Claire was the beloved mother of Maureen Souza and Robert E. Bailey; loving grandmother of Michael J. Bailey and William E. Bailey; great-grandmother of Samantha Monique, Jacob Michael, Rebecca Melody and Edward Mason Bailey; sister of the late Clovis A. Roux.
Claire attended grammar school at St. Theresa School in Tarrytown, NY, and was a graduate of Central High School in Providence, after which she attended Community College of RI. She had worked as a secretary for Brown & Sharpe in Providence during her early years and went on to work for the Shepherd Co. in Providence, and Bulova Watch Co., also in Providence. Claire was a licensed hair stylist and cosmetologist, and later retired from the Puritan Insurance Co. in 1987 as an Employee Relations Coordinator. There she received two merit plaques for her work as Suggestion Plan Coordinator and for exceptional performance in her position in personnel.
An active member of her community, she was a Girl Scout leader for the Providence and Cranston Council and was a president of a Providence Post of Am vets auxiliary. She also volunteered at “Insight” reading to the visually impaired on closed circuit radios.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the request of the family.
