Mrs. Frances Emily Dunn, 69, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday morning, February 27, 2020 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of Vontella Gibson Girdner and the late Hiram Reed Girdner born on February 28, 1950 in Barbourville.

Fran was a retired school teacher and a member of the Barbourville Church of God. She was gifted a beautiful singing voice and shared it often in service to God. She also enjoyed serving the church and shopping.

On August 7, 1971, she united in marriage with Sylvester Dunn.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Matt and Emily Logan Girdner and Jennings and Allie Logan Gibson.

Survivors include her loving husband of 48 years, Rev. Sylvester Dunn; her mother, Vontella Girdner; a sister, Reeda Girdner Hammons; a nephew, Jonathan David Hammons all of Barbourville; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, March 1 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Sylvester Dunn, Rev. Mark Sarver and Rev. Mike Addison officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Shawn Smith, Travis Matlock, Donnie Cox, Donnie Hudson, Chad Engle, Herbie Smith, Ernie Joe Valentine and Dave Collins. Honorary bearers will be her church family.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour. Expressions of sympathy may go to the Appalachian Children’s Home in her memory.
