Michael Eastman, 70, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:20 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Marvin Sweet will officiate. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday, March 2, 2020.

Born on August 5, 1949, in Memphis, TN. Mike was the son of Harold and Theresa (Paul) Eastman. He was united in marriage to Nancy Rice on May 21, 1983. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2016.

Mike was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a VFW Post 2021 member and an honorary member of the Vernon Greys. After serving his country in the Army from 1966 to 1969 during the Vietnam War, Mike served in the National Guard from 1969 to 1986. He was a Journalist during this time. He served as the Veterans Service Officer in Jennings County for 10 years and advised other surrounding county officers. Mike was a prolific storyteller. He enjoyed painting, sailing, photography and had attended the Eastman School of Photography in Rochester, NY.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Kate Eastman of Lafayette; son, Jon Eastman of Lafayette; brothers, David Eastman of Pennsylvania, John Eastman of Michigan, Phillip Eastman of Minnesota; and James Eastman of Indianapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Theresa Eastman; wife, Nancy Eastman; brother, Clifford Eastman.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the First United Methodist Church or the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette..
