Bobby "Bob" Brance Dawson, 73, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, surrounded by loved ones, at St. Bernard's Five Rivers Medical Center, in Pocahontas. Bob was born on November 8, 1946 in Corning, Arkansas, to Bural Brance and Pauline N. King Dawson.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, neighbor, and friend. He was a long-time Elder at the Pyburn Street Church of Christ, in Pocahontas, and a current member of the Skaggs Church of Christ, in Pocahontas. Bob's love of the Word of God was his heart's precedence. His life was modeled after the example of Christ, and he made it his life's work to teach his children and grandchildren the way of truth.
On June 29, 1968, Bob married the love of his life, Margaret "Peggy" Ann Lee. They were married nearly fifty-two years.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Bural Brance and Pauline N. King Dawson.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost fifty-two years, Margaret "Peggy" Ann Lee Dawson of the home; three children, Angela (Sean) Hilliard, of Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Drew (Denise) Dawson, of Pocahontas, and Lee Ann (Josh) Rutter, of Pocahontas; seven grandchildren, Carter Hilliard (fiance Kelsey Davidson), Dawson Hilliard, Parker Hilliard, Abigail Hilliard, Adrian (Jared) Cooper, Wilson Rutter, and Jack Dawson.
Bob graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1964, and entered college at the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville. After a year, he transferred to Arkansas State University, in Jonesboro where he met the love of his life, Peggy. They were married in 1968, and lived in Jonesboro until Bob graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business. After graduation, Bob and Peggy returned to Pocahontas where Bob went to work with his father, Brance, at Dawson Furniture. Over the next forty years Bob put his heart and soul into the business and transformed his father's small store into the Dawson Furniture Store that graces our community to this day. Bob treated every customer with respect, and did his best to fulfill their wishes of a beautiful home with the personal touches that can only come from a man who honored his fellow man with a work ethic that was unsurpassed.
Bob's passion was his love for God's beautifully created outdoors. He loved to compete in bass fishing tournaments. Nothing compared to the sunrise before boat launch on the morning of a tournament and the excitement of a limit of fish to take to the scales at weigh-in. He loved the challenge of a good deer hunt and the thrill of duck hunting season. He had a keen eye for landscaping and creating beautiful designs in his yard at home. Tending his landscaping projects brought him the satisfaction of a successful stewardship of the outdoors.
Bob's greatest accomplishment was his adherence to his faith and his commitment to the truth that is found in Christ. His every achievement was guided by his desire to be his absolute best. His family and his friends can rest in the assurances of the noble life he lived, knowing he has heard the words, "Well done."
Visitation will be held in the chapel of the Fears Family Funeral Home, in Pocahontas, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Friday, February 28, 2020. Bob's funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at the Skaggs Church of Christ, in Pocahontas; Mitch Walton, Carter Hilliard, and Jon Fears, officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery, in Pocahontas.
