A memorial service for Janice Stella Buford, nee Metzger, 88, Union, will be Friday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Union Masonic Lodge. Mrs. Buford died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, in Washington. She is survived by one son, Andrew Buford, Eminence; two daughters, Amy Wehmeier and husband Don, Union, and Jane Riebold and husband Orrin, Idaho state; other relatives and many friends. The family is being served by Midlawn Funeral Home, Union.

Janice and her husband Winston were living in Washington State since 2003, prior to moving back to Missouri to live with her daughter and son-in-law due to their health needs.

Janice, daughter of the late Harrison Metzger and wife Stella (Shafer) was born July 14, 1930 in Bellingham, Washington.

On May 12, 1950 she was united in marriage to Winston V. Buford in Pocahontas, Arkansas.

Janice was a 50 plus year member of the Eastern Star in Missouri and ended up in Washington State, Ferndale Chapter. In Missouri she held the position of District Deputy Grand Matron. She was also a member of Friends of the Library in Union.

She enjoyed shopping, feeding hummingbirds and planting flowers around her home. She frequented the Union Senior Center and loved to be around people and socialize with everyone.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Stella Metzger; her husband, Winston Buford; one son, Harrison Buford and two brothers, Waylan Metzger and Eldon Metzger.

She is survived by three children, Amy Wehmeier and husband Don of Union, Andrew Buford of Eminence and Jane Riebold and husband Orrin of Idaho; one brother, Gerald Metzger of Ferndale, WA; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Memorial donations to Cancer Research Center 3501 Berrywood Dr., #2, Columbia, Missouri 65201 are preferred.
