Thomas David Hess, 95, of Springville, passed away on Tuesday at IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Born July 29, 1924, in Indianapolis, IN, he was the son of Carl and Ellen (Thomas) Hess. He married Margaret Arthur on October 24, 1947 and she survives. They were married for over 72 years.

Thomas was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School. He was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps and then later retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service, then later retired from Eli Lily after 22 years.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite #32nd Degree, the Masonic Lodge of Trafalgar, and the American Legion Post #205 of Franklin.

Thomas enjoyed fishing , mushroom hunting, and woodworking.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret, of Springville; Children, Lois (Bill) Seagraves, of Foley, Alabama, Camille (Larry) Bender, of Whiteland, Indiana and Foley, Alabama, Tom Hess, of Springville; grandchildren, Monica (Paul) Ayers, Chandler (Teri) Seagraves, Angela (Mark) Darnell, Jeremy, (Trisha) McCain, Michelle Hess, Misty Jones, Dallas Todd Parsley, and Jackie (Marci) Parsley; great-grandchildren, Courtney Coutinho, John and Kyle O'Connor, Georgie Seagraves, Ashley Bay, Thomas Long, Jeremy James and Addy McCain, Dylan, Abigael Lynn and Alexandria Leigh Parsley, Angel Schlichte, Rachelle Marie Sluss, Cheyenne, Johnnie, and Jacob Maners; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe Vivian Masters, Haley, David, Lilly, Maddy and Charlie Maners, Audree White, Brentlee Moore, and Keegan Armentrout.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Gerald Lee Parsley; and one sister, Leora Hall.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Pastor Wendell Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Beyers-Rainbolt Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at the grave by members of the American Legion Gillen Post #33.

Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Friday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association.
