After blessing family and friends during a life of loving and giving, Sharron succumbed to ALS on February 22, 2020, after a 12 year battle. She was born in Birmingham, AL, on January 22, 1955. Before graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, AL, she married Steven Hugh Taylor, whom she had met at a mission’s conference while skipping school. He was so smitten they saw each other the next 14 nights and were married a year later after he completed Marine boot camp. For almost 48 years she followed him all over the world, raised their children, and even sent him off to war when necessary, all without complaint.
Her first concern was always her children, and later the children at West Florida Baptist Academy where she taught from 1988 – 1997. Her children have always depended on her and even when ALS had taken her power of speech, her children would call for advice on their kids’ health, how to cook particular dishes, and myriad other challenges they faced in everyday life. One of her students had this to say about her, “…she was remarkably balanced. She loved Jesus and it emanated from her… I respected her too much to behave badly… She taught me as an 11 and 12 year old but she taught me far more as an adult. She taught me how to suffer well.” Many of her students and her own children and their spouses would echo the same sentiments.
She worked at Abeka Book, Pensacola Christian College, from 1997 to 2005 when she resigned her position to become a full-time caregiver for her mother who had been invalided by a stroke. She took care of her mother until she was diagnosed with ALS in January 2008. She never gave up the battle, taking six cruises, including two to Alaska, with her still smitten husband, Steve, over the next seven years. The last two cruises she had to do in a wheelchair. For the past five years she has slowly lost all use of her arms and legs, not leaving the house for the past three years. Despite having every reason to despair and blame God, she never lost sight of His goodness, and lived in continual faith that He was in control. To the end she had such a spirit that even the hospice nurses could SEE her faith, the best kind of witness.
She is survived by: her husband, Steven H. Taylor; brothers, Ricky and Phil Blaich; five children, Brian Derrick Taylor (Tracy), Christina Diane Taylor (Chris), Cynthia Rose Cook (James), Charity Dawn Seely (Doug), and Patrick David Taylor (Ellie); and twenty-one grandchildren, Leighann, Michael, Abbey, Austin, Alex, Aiden, Dani, Chase, Taylor, Talya, Torri, Tasha, Trey, Cole, Jordan, MacKenzie, Ethan, Tanner, Sydney, Conner, and Blake.
