James H. Fischer, 89, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Jefferson, died Thursday, February 20, 2020, at home. He was born February 25, 1930, in Mather, a son of Frederick and Mary Huber Fischer. Mr. Fischer spent the majority of his life in Greene County, graduating from Jefferson-Morgan Jr.-Sr. High School in 1948. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War from 1952-1954, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star. After leaving the military, he worked for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, working his way up to chief mechanic on the lock and dam system where he retired in 2001. In November 2007 he left Greene County and Pennsylvania for good to live with his son, David and his family in Colorado Springs. On August 29, 1969, he married Patricia E. Roberts Fischer, who survives. Also surviving are his son, David J. (Kara) Fischer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his three grandchildren, Calvin B. Fischer of Grand Junction, Colo., Jessica E Tessier of Houlton, Wis. and Tucker M. Fischer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews from around the U.S. He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 28, in the First United Methodist Church of Carmichaels, 101 West South Street, Carmichaels, PA 15320, with the Rev. Dayton Mix officiating. Friends will be received before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. and following the service a meal will be served in the church social hall. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor.
