He was born September 22, 1933 in Ouachita County.
Sonny was a retired Navy photographer, having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Harper; his parents, Ruby Benson-Harper and Leroy Harper; and his brother Larry Harper and wife, Dianne.
Sonny is survived by his sisters: Jeanell "Dozie" Lester-Rogers and husband, Freddie Lee, Nelda Calley, and Rhonda Robertson and husband, Richard; his brother, Bruce Harper and wife, Linda; many nieces, nephews, friends, and one special friend, Vonnie Walthall.
The graveside services will be held at Red Hill Cemetery.
