James Marion DeLong was born in Mertzon, Irion County, Texas to Frances Marion (Frank) DeLong and Beulah Mae McFall DeLong. he was the oldest of four children who includes James, Frances Mae, Lonnie and Lenard DeLong. He joined the Army during the Korean War as a Radio Operator in Germany. He married Artie B. McDowell in 1953 in San Angelo, Texas and had two children. James was a voting member of the Tom Green County, Historical Commission and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Tom Green Camp 1613 as well as the Tom Green County Historical Society. He loved his Family and History of Irion and Tom Green County, as he was the surviving great grand child of the second settler of Tom Green County, George Washington DeLong.
