The 1850 Fayette County, Alabama census states he was born in NC. The 1870 census states he was born in SC.

The 1850 Fayette/Lamar County census shows William Walker (age 58, farmer, $1,300, b. in N.C., widower) and Samuel P. Walker (son, age 19, farmer, b. in AL.) In 1860, his wife was Martha.

The 1860 Fayette/Lamar County AL census shows William Walker (age 69, farmer, b. N.C.), Martha (age 58, b. S.C.) and John (son, age 38, farmer, b. AL).

To quote from pg 618 of the book 'Heritage of Lamar County, Alabama , Volume 38', (published by Heritage Publishing Consultants, P. O. Box 67, Clanton, AL 35046) “William Walker came to Fayette/Lamar County before 1830. He had two known sons, John D (buried in Springhill Cm.), and Samuel P. Walker. There was one other son, and three daughters. All, except Samuel P., were out of the home by 1850. By 1880, William and wife Martha were deceased.”

Sept 13, 1870 census states: William Walker 77 born SC (farmer), Martha Walker 66 born SC (wife, keeping house), William T Walker 22 born AL (farm laborer; this is the son of John D. Walker and the grandson of William), Eliza Coleman 40 born AL (domestic servant) and John W Coleman 16 born AL (works on farm). Robert Coleman 14 born AL (works on farm), Anthony Coleman 12 born AL (works on farm), Barbara Coleman 8 born AL (works on farm) and William Coleman 3 yrs of age. The Coleman family shown as part of their household was a black family.
