"Born in Tennessee, d/o James Jones, orphaned. She and her only sister were reared by relatives L. B. & Sarah Morris in Frankfort, Kentucky and Tensas Parish, Louisiana where she met and married Elbert Hampton Guice on Oct. 03, 1844 on the plantation at Harrisonburg, Louisiana. She gave birth to ten children. Her husband died Dec. 09, 1864 at Red Chute, Bossier Parish, Louisiana while a paymaster with the CSA. She came to Texas with the children, her brother Jacob Guice Jones and Cornelia Ann who was married to Benjamin F. Kitchens. Her death was due to error by a druggist filling prescription with morphine instead of quinine. She was of Pennsylvania German descent."
