Evelyn was born on January 1, 1943 in Carbondale, Illinois, to John Thomas and Hattie Boykin.
Evelyn attended Carbondale Public School and graduated with her high school diploma from Crispus Attucks High School. Later she moved to Joliet, Illinois where she met her husband, Augusta Jackson.
Evelyn was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Joliet, Illinois. She spent most of her career working as a bank teller. Evelyn retired from Joliet Township High School as a bus driver.
Evelyn had many hobbies that she loved doing; she loved to cook, sew, fishing by the lake, reading, and crocheting. Most of all she loved spending time with her friends and family.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Jennifer Roberts (Springfield, Illinois); brothers, Robert (Rose) Thomas of Kansas and James (Ann) Thomas of Maryland; grandchildren, Jenaia, Marissa and Anthony (Springfield) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Augusta Jackson; parents, John Wesley and Hattie V. Thomas; sisters, Juanita Farmer and Roberta Thomas and brothers, John Thomas and Harold Thomas.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois
