Helen was the owner of The Cracked Egg Cafe on Big Pine Key, Florida. A coal-miner's daughter, Helen worked at various jobs during her early years including caregiver and waitress. After moving to the Florida Keys, she held several positions in the restaurant business, learning the ropes of operating a restaurant. Finally, in 2001, she established her own very successful and popular restaurant which served fabulous home-cooked breakfasts and lunches, many of which she herself cooked. Unfortunately, lack of reliable help and medical problems forced her to close the restaurant in 2013. For this coal-miner's daughter, owning a restaurant in the Florida Keys was a great accomplishment, especially since so many other people have tried and failed!
