Obituary Kathryn Blankenship Hammond Desert News Sept 18 2000

Kathryn B. (Kay) Hammond, 87, slipped gently away September 14, 2000 and returned to her Father in Heaven and the loving arms of her husband who waited for her for 31 years.

Kathryn was known as an extraordinarily thoughtful and gentle lady by everyone who knew her. Her bright spirit, sense of humor and uplifting smile will be missed intensely.

Kathryn was born May 25, 1913 and lived all her life in Salt Lake City. She was a descendant of pioneers who settled in Utah in 1848.

Kathryn married Ernest B. Hammond, Jr. (Dee) on October 13, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1969. She remained devoted to his memory for the remainder of her life on earth.

Her life was marked by her devotion to others, especially her three loving children, Barbara Dee Lorenz, Nancy Hammond, Ed Hammond and daughter-in-law Krista. In addition to her children, she is survived by six grandchildren: Keri, Cordell, Stephanie, Alison, Craig, and Katrina who were very devoted to their "Grandma Katie". She will also be missed by many friends and family members, including two special nieces, Bonnie Lauten and Leone Walton, who she loved dearly.

Kathryn enjoyed a fulfilling career for over thirty years as a Physical Therapy Aide at Holy Cross Hospital. She was recognized and valued by the doctors, therapists and patients for the special care she dedicated to her work. In addition to her work at Holy Cross, she loved gardening, cooking and traveling.

The family expresses special thanks to Kathryn's devoted health side, Janine Ochler and the staffs at Woodland Park Care Center and Care Source Hospice.
