She is survived by her brother, Gordon E Giles, and sister, Peggy G Boscacci, and their children and by two stepsons, John and Douglas Richardson, and their children.
Her family moved to Alaska when she was a child and she was raised in Seldovia and Anchorage. She attended college at the University of Denver and returned to work in Alaska. In the late 1970s she met John Richardson and they were wed in 1977. After John's retirement, they moved to Leavenworth, Washington, where they lived for 20 years. In 2003, they returned to John's home state of Hawaii.
Throughout the thirty years of their happy marriage, the couple spent much of their time traveling the world on cruise ships and container ships. After John's death in 2008, Carol has remained in their high-rise condominium, looking out at the tremendous view of Honolulu that she and John had gazed at for years. She died looking out at that same view.
At her request, she has been cremated and her remains placed next to those of John at the Oahu Cemetery in a private ceremony. Arrangements Provided By: Oahu Mortuary.
