Laverne Beverly Wallace, a longtime Mora resident, died on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Welia Health in Mora. She was 90 years old.
Laverne was born to Victor and Ruth (Vedeen) Pearson on September 30, 1929 in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from North High School in Minneapolis in 1947.
Laverne married George B. Wallace on February 3, 1951, and then moved to the Mora area. Together, they enjoyed traveling, taking many road trips to the western states and yearly visits to Las Vegas.
As her children grew older, Laverne returned to the labor force. She was especially adept at handling finances and became an accounting manager. She was an active member of St. Mary’s parish, where she volunteered many years to help count the Sunday collection. Plus, she was a longtime volunteer treasurer with the local food shelf.
Shortly after George’s death in 1995, Laverne moved to Park Forest Estates, where she enjoyed cards, dominoes, and socializing. Well into her eighties, she also worked part-time at Park Forest as building caretaker/office assistant. Continuing her lifelong work ethic, she was a 20-year volunteer at St. Clare Living Community, just “retiring” in December.
Laverne was preceded in death by her husband George and sister Delores LaRandeau.
Laverne is survived by four daughters, Jean Black of Mora; Beverly (Dennis) Wilson of Isanti; Debra Wallace (Ken Hasskamp) of Long Beach, CA; Vicki Wallace of Forest Lake; and one son Jim (Robyn) Wallace of Mora; six grandchildren, Scott Black, Seth Black, Luke Hasskamp, Ben Hasskamp, Lindsay Wallace, Alyssa Wallace; four great-grandchildren, Leyton, Tanyon, and Kydon Black, and Adiyah Hasskamp; one brother Ron Pearson of Park Rapids; as well as many other relatives and friends.
