Marvin Samuel Williams, age 95, of Mattoon passed away at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Brookstone Estates of Charleston.

Funeral services honoring his life will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Brown officiating. Burial at Dodge Grove Cemetery will follow. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Tuesday.

Marvin was born on December 1, 1924 in Mattoon, IL the son of Roy and Mae (Gillespie). Marvin married Betty Frances Wood on February 22, 1947. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2014.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristy (Fred) Davies; son, David (Jessica) Williams; grandchildren, Matthew Metzger, Jake Wilson, Jared Wilson, Zach Williams, Jaidyn Williams and Benjamin Williams; sisters, Judy Beachy and Marge Checkly; brother, Bob Williams.

In addition to his wife, Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol Protz; grandson, Mark Metzger; one brother and three sisters.

Marvin retired from General Electric after 30 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed the outdoors, taking vacations and walking. Marvin was an avid Illini and Nascar fan. Because Marvin’s father was a train engineer, he developed a love for knowledge about trains at an early age. This passion for trains was with him his entire life. Most of all, Marvin loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved him.
