Charles S. Bickel, a prominent lodgeman and one of the best known barbers in the city, died at the Mercy hospital at 11 o'clock Saturday evening. He had been ill but a short time and was admitted to the institution on Saturday morning. Mr. Bickel had been suffering from liver trouble but had been confined to bed but a short time. His condition was not regarded as serious until Saturday morning, when he became suddenly worse. He was taken to the hospital at 11 o'clock, growing rapidly worse until his death, twelve hours later. Charles Samuel Bickel was born in Berks county, January 28, 1872. He came to Altoona at the age of 19, securing a job as a barber and following the business ever since. For the past six years he had conducted a shop at 1116 Sixteenth street, and was one of the widest known barbers in the city. He was married in November, 1902, to Miss Hattie Kinch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Kinch, of 1911 Fifth avenue, where Mr. Bickel had made his home since the death of his wife two years ago. Only one son survives, Kahle, aged 10, who resides with the grandparents. The following brothers and sisters also survive: David, of Pittsburg; Mrs.Ida Lehman, of Womelsdorf, Pa.; Mrs. Strom, of Temple, Berks county,Pa.; Cora, of Pittsburg, and Mrs. Ella Ginther, who resides in the eastern part of the state. Mr. Bickel was prominent as a lodge man, being affiliated with the following orders: Altoona lodge No. 102, B.P.O.E.; Winnebago tribe, I.O.R.M.; Verandah lodge of Odd Fellows; Logan lodge No. 79, Knights of Pythias; the Royal Arcanum, and the following Masonic orders: Hiram lodge No. 616, Free and Accepted Masons; Mountain chapter, No. 189, R.A.M.; Mountain council No. 9, R. and S.M.; Mountain commandery No. 10, Knights Templar, and Jaffa Temple, A.A.N.O.M.S
