----------------------
SIMON, John Albert “Jack,” beloved husband to Linda Simon (née Barrett) and loving step-father of Julie (Phillip) Hauenstein and Amy (Timothy) Short, preceded in death by parents, Adele and Robert Simon. Jack passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at age 72. He was a kind-hearted man and cherished friend.

Jack was an only child, raised in Pittsburgh by his mother, aunt, and maternal grandparents. As a young man, he served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Following his service, he moved to Cincinnati and leveraged his background in Accounting to specialize in Data Processing and Systems Programming. Jack enjoyed a good challenge and was known to develop elaborate systems to solve any sort of problem that was thrown his way.

Later in life, Jack fell in love with Linda, and the two went on to experience many wonderful adventures together. They shared a mutual love of travel, embracing cultures and music from different parts of the world. He enjoyed sharing in a good joke with others and had a love of photography that he described as, “an interest I must have inherited from my mother, who seemingly photographed everything in sight, whether it moved or not.” Jack was also a lover of animals, rescuing many “retired” greyhounds who had been cast out from the racing circuit. He took pride in his community and followed in his long familial tradition of public service to become a Board Member of the West Chester Citizen Police Academy. He leaves behind many whose lives he touched and who will miss him greatly.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in his name to the Vietnam Veterans of America at http://vva.org/donate.
