Funeral services for Mrs. Joan Garrett Clay will begin at 11:00am Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Druid Hills United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jonathan Tullos and Gerald Chaney officiating. Interment will follow at Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Clay, 81, of Meridian, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at her residence.
Mrs. Joan retired after 41 years of service with the social security administration. Joan was a long time member of 5th Street United Methodist Church and had been a member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church for the past 16 years. She was active in the United Methodist Conference, United Methodist Women and numerous other church organizations. She always took charge of any situation in front of her and was a faithful servant and friend. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Clay is survived by her children, Kenneth Lee Clay, Jr. (Margaret), Andrew Garrett Clay (Tina), Brenda Joan Clay, and Cynthia Clay Anderson (Craig). One sister, Virginia Moody (Richard); Eight Grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
Mrs. Joan is preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Elaine Clay; parents, Tom and Irma Garrett; siblings, Bubba Garrett, Juanita Garrett, Francis Sevigny, and Wanza Tolbert.
The family request memorials be made as donations to Druid Hills United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
