Ms. Gladys Lucille Laster Hughes of Stockbridge, Georgia formerly of Americus, Georgia died Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Southwest Christian Care in Union City, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia.

The burial will follow at the Eastview Cemetery in Americus, Georgia.

The first lines written in the book of life for Gladys Lucille Laster Hughes were penned on December 31, 1942 when she was born in Sumter County, Georgia. She was born to the late William Laster, Sr. and the late Lulean James Laster.

The early seeds of education were planted while she was a student in the Sumter County School System. In 1959 she graduated from high school. In 1960, she enrolled at the Atlanta Business School. She completed the course of study and graduated in 1962.

She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He was first and foremost in her life.

A loving daughter, she resided with her mother in Americus, Georgia until her passing in 1990. After a brief illness, she moved to Jacksonville, North Carolina in 2003 and resided with her daughter, Tracy and son-in-law, Gregory. In 2018, because of declining health, she moved to Stockbridge, Georgia to reside with her son, William. It was during this time that she received treatment at the Cancer Center in Newnan, Georgia.

She was joined in holy matrimony to William H. Hughes, Sr. hey later divorced. Their union was blessed with three children.

On Sunday, September 8, 2019, the final lines were written in her book of life. A life that will forever be cherished and loved by many. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Willie Laster and William Laster, Jr.
