James was first married to Sarah A. Clevenger (20 Aug 1836). There were at least 8 children as a result of this union; but apparently Sarah and James spit (divorced), as I find a Sarah Ann Helms buried in the Doddridge Church Cemetery, who died in 1894. (incidentally, Sarah's parents are buried in this same cemetery). James then married Nancy J. Williams (12 Aug 1858). There were 3 children from this union. James lost his oldest son (Michael) from his first marriage in the civil war. Ironically, both James and his son served in the same unit (G.A.R., Indiana Volunteers, 124th Reg. Company 'F'). His second wife (Nancy Jane), remarried a 'Wilson K. Russell'...(it would seem, before James Finley Helms's death in 1885 - so apparently Nancy and James F. divorced); and she's buried beside Wilson in the Union Cemetery - Eaton (Delaware Co) IN. I have good reason to believe, that James married a 3rd time (I have a marriage document), to a Lucy Malone. What happened to her afterwards....I've not discovered.

Gravesite Details
This grave hasn't been located as of November 2021 to my knowledge. It's very likely it was in a family plot/cemetery. Interestingly, there are two properties (according to a 1874 plat map) owned by 'Gentry's...southwest of Centerville, IN.
